There's a Better Way to Fix Your Below-Ground Pipes

You’ve just gotten the news: your sewer line, the pipe that runs underneath your property and through your yard, is in need of replacement. The sewer line is buried deep in the yard, so your plumber is likely to tell you they will need to dig up the pipe in order to rip it out and replace it.

But this is not the only way to do things. Many companies don’t have the tools necessary to do it the other way: using trenchless technology. Trenchless technology allows for pipe replacement (or, more accurately, relining) that can keep things moving along smoothly in the pipes with minimal damage to your property.

What’s Involved with Trenchless Technology?

Hydraulic equipment is used to guide new piping material through an old pipe, without digging up most of your yard to fix things up. They’ll need some way to access the pipe, so technicians will need to dig one or two holes in the property, right where the sewer line meets the home’s drain connections and where it meets the city’s sewer system.

Then, the machinery is inserted into the pipe, dragging a new deflated pipe lining through to the other side. This deflated pipe lining is coated with an adhesive. Any of several methods may be used to seal the liner into place, including steam. The adhesive is given time to harden, and the new cured-in-place piping (CIPP) is ready for use after the pipes are reassembled.

Why Hasn’t My Plumber Offered This Service?

Trenchless pipe lining can save you a whole lot of time and hassle. Your yard is in better shape and it can take a lot less time. So why hasn’t your plumber offered this service? Your plumber knows about trenchless pipe repair, but access to the technology may be a different story. Your plumber may try to convince you that conventional pipe repair is better in your circumstances, but this often isn’t the case. Don’t be afraid to seek out a second opinion!
