Digging a Hole for Your Sewer Issues: Is It Necessary?

Digging a Hole for Your Sewer Issues: Is It Necessary?

If you’re having issues with your sewer line, you might be worried about the necessary plumbing work to come. Of course, you want your sewage and drainage issues cleared up once and for all. But will you have to have the plumbing pipes on your property dug up and replaced?

In some cases, you may. But there is often another solution! Trenchless sewer pipe technology often allows for your sewer lines to be repaired and good as new, without digging a huge trench throughout the length of the pipe.

But First, An Inspection

Of course, a plumber will need to inspect your pipes before deciding what method of repair to use. If you have sewage backing up into your drains if your drains are moving slowly, or there are any other signs of sewer line issues, you may be able to attribute the problem to any of the following issues:

  • Drain clogs
  • Grease buildup
  • Tree root infiltration

Then again, there could be a major leak in your sewer line or signs of corrosion that lead a plumber to decide on the next step: replacing the pipes.

Determining Whether Trenchless Pipe Repair Is Possible

There are some circumstances in which trenchless repairs are not possible, either due to the design of the pipes, the nature of the leak, or the layout of the property. However, in many cases, it is the easiest and best course of action.

Trenchless pipe repair is often also referred to as cast-in-place piping (CIPP). So how does it work?

  • One or two holes must be made in order to access the old pipe. However, this is far less damage to your property than a large trench. An access point is created into the piping.
  • Hydraulic equipment is used to insert a new pipe lining into the old pipe.
  • The lining is coated with an adhesive. The new lining is inflated and given time to dry onto the old pipe.
  • This is just as effective as any standard pipe and should last for decades on most properties.

Call a plumber today to find out if this is the best option for your home!
