2 Plumbing Leaks You Can Fix Yourself-And When to Call the Pros

A leaky plumbing system can cause major water damage or even mold growth, and it can cost you a lot of money. On the other hand, small plumbing leaks may be relatively easy to fix if you’ve got the right tools for the job, and if you feel confident in your handy work.

We’ve got some information on a couple of leaks you might be able to fix on your own. But for the major ones, it’s best to leave it to a qualified professional plumber. Call ours for more information or to schedule service today!

A leaky garden hose

We know that many California residents are doing their best to conserve water wherever possible. Do your part by patching up that leaky garden hose! If you’re not ready to replace it just yet, you might be able to seal a leak temporarily with a little bit of tape. A lot of people make the mistake of using duct tape or electrical tape. What you’re looking for is silicone tape—designed to be waterproof. Collect your leak

A leaking showerhead

If the showerhead is leaking, you probably just need to tighten it a bit. Swiveling showerheads may get jostled around a bit, and sometimes a quick adjustment is all you need. If the showerhead feels loose when you use an adjustable wrench to grab the threads, you might just need to tighten it. We recommend using electrical tape around the threads to protect them from damage.

Otherwise, a bit of Teflon tape may do the trick. Unscrew the showerhead and try using Teflon tape on the threads of the shower arm before screwing the showerhead back on. If this doesn’t work, it might be time to find a replacement showerhead at your local hardware store.

Call the professionals

When a plumbing leak threatens to damage your property, or when it’s something that requires tools most homeowners don’t own, call in a plumber. A quality contractor will send over a plumber with years of experience and the right training and tools for the work. Don’t let an amateur handle a job that could put your home at risk.
