Tips to Save Energy This Fall

Tips to Save Energy This Fall

As summer comes to an end and the weather gets colder, most people find the need to turn on the heat. A warm home is a comfortable home, but it can be expensive. Here are a few tips to save money this fall all while keeping warm.

Open the Windows

Take advantage of mild fall temperatures and throw those windows wide open. Using the windows is most beneficial in early fall when the weather is in the high 60s and low 70s. Studies have shown that this is the optimal temperature range for your home. By opening the windows and turning off the air conditioning, you are getting the perfect temperature without spending a dime and you’re bringing in much needed fresh air.

Program Your Thermostat

When you must turn on the heat, make sure to set your thermostat for specific times. There is no point in keeping your home toasty if no one if it’s unoccupied. We recommend setting your thermostat to turn off while no one is at home and then turn on an hour before returning to save money. You do not want to spend money on heating an empty home. Many smart thermostats have an app that also helps you regulate the temperature while you are away.

Seal Your Windows

Our final money-saving tip for this fall is to make sure that all of your windows are properly sealed and that your roof or attic is insulated. Proper sealing will prevent drafts from cooling off your home. Insulation also makes a huge difference when it comes to regulating the temperature. Adequate insulation allows the heat to stay in the house and your heating system does not have to run as long.
